Overall I’m really happy with my travel experience this past week. I made decent food choices for most of the trip and did fit in exercising at the hotel gym. I’ll be glad to get back into my regular routine but it was also nice to have a little break from the norm to shake things up. I was really proud of myself for sticking to my eating lifestyle. I drank a lot of water, ate meats and veggies and did reward myself with one raspberry martini-but it was only 28 carbs so it didn’t blow my whole day.
We were on our feet a good bit for work so that made it good to get my steps in. I worked out Tuesday morning before leaving and even did Zumba that night for a double workout day. I took a break Wednesday and then worked out Thursday night walking 2 miles on the treadmill and went back Friday morning to do another mile on the treadmill and do an arm workout. The hotel gym was simple but it had a good weight tower for arm work.
One big tip is thinking ahead about meal choices and even those gas station stops. I would always gravitate to a small bag of peanuts, cashews, or beef jerky. I love diet green tea and Monster makes a great low calorie Rehab lemonade drink that is good. I still drank water more than anything else. The hotel had lots of carb options for breakfast but always had eggs and either sausage or a scramble mix so I just filled my plate with what I could have and passed the other things by. It gets easier as you have been eating low carb for a while and second nature to make good choices, but it’s still tempting to eat bad. We had the luxury of nice places for dinner so I got a steak and broccoli at Outback and nibbled a few of the blooming onion pieces. I had a tuna steak at Bonefish and really wanted the Bang Bang shrimp but passed when I found out it was pretty high carb. I had a nibble of other people’s desserts but no more of a portion than the choices like no sugar added chocolate bars or baby ice cream cups that I have at home. It was a good experience and I’m really proud of myself!
